By the way - I now have "Cities in the Dust" etched into my brain, it's all your fault -

Going to be honest here, I like this turn in your paintings - it's nothing I'd expect from you. Everything else I've seen from you, even when you didn't intend to be - are much more rigid and architectural. The darker strokes seem very organic - almost human in it's energy.
The bottom portion of the painting I really really like the movement seems very free and unencumbered when you got to the top though it seems as if you did it on a totally different day structured and more of what you know how to paint (if that makes sense) the bottom seems more feeling... anyway just my dumb opinion. I like how you used the black and white tones I think its probably a nice challenge to get away from colour.

:)

it does give it a nice layered effect and sense of depth. it wasn't done on different days, just in a different style, but I see what you mean. :)
do you think the two styles mesh/juxtapose well?

I'll have to explore this a little more then, see where it goes. :)
Yeah, I do. Even in the above portion, though somewhat regular in pattern - that is still less rigid than what I've seen you do. I think it makes it easier for the second half mesh well with it (a grey and white color palette I think helps too...will be interesting to see what you do with it with more color). By the way - is the photo in focus? Sometimes I can never tell, I know on a lot of Bennett's canvases I had a difficult time getting the strokes to pop out.
I think it's just slightly out of focus. the camera hasn't been cooperating lately.
